Atheism

Atheism is important to me, it is one of my defining characteristics. Many people who are deeply religious, or think they are, have great difficulty understanding what atheism is all about. They insist on spelling it with a capital letter and calling it a religion. It is not a religion.

Atheism is simply not believing in a god or gods. I do not chose not to believe in God, I do not hate God, I am not doing anything to spite God. I simply do not believe that there is a God. That means I have nothing in common with Satanists or Pagans or any other kind of non-Christian or anti-Christian religion, whether sincere or cod religions. I was brought up in a Christian family within a Christian community. I did not reject religion either as part of a general teenage rebellion or in response to any kind of bad experience, I simply grew up and did not believe in it. God did not make sense to me. My atheism is part of my wider rationalism. Twenty five years of further research into the matter has confirmed my view that atheism is the rational way to approach the mysteries of this wonderful universe we inhabit.
