If there really was a god then surrendering to his will might be considered prudent but it would not be moral or right. If a man owned a slave and then freed that slave, allowed him to have free will, would it be moral for the slave owner to lie in wait and then beat the former slave because he didn't pick cotton for nothing like he did when he was a slave? No. There is no moral excuse for a god to punish people after their death for choices they made in life. Punishment after death when not only the person punished but all who know of the punishment are incapable of repeating the crime committed has no justification, it is brutalizing to all concerned.

There is no excuse for God's behaviour. If he exists he is a monster. Punishing people for being unable to believe, for being reluctant to have faith, is entirely unjustifiable in human terms. Of course monsters may very well have different morality and there is nothing we can do to change those things. Protesting that the Nazis had no right to kill Jews would do no good when they had the power to do it. Monsters don't need excuses when they have power. Does God have a conscience? Why would he need one? The only god would not fear judgement. He has nobody to bring him to account unless he voluntarily submits to judgement.

Of course the Jesus myth supposes that this is what happened, that God in the form of Jesus was punished by men. But this is a cop out. God did not submit himself to justice as God. Those who executed him did not do so as God, they did not believe he was God. God has never been tried for his own crimes against humanity. The trial of Jesus was the trial of a man for blasphemy, for offending against religion, or was it for treason against Rome? The gospel writers were obviously not lawyers as it is far from clear what offence was being prosecuted. Presumably as it was Pilate and not the Sanhedrin who sentenced him it must have been for an infringement of Roman law, of some kind, at least nominally. Whatever the records might have shown, if there were any, they would not show that God was found guilty of his crimes against humanity.

Are you making excuses for God; why? Whose side are you on? Have you no self respect, have you no pride in your own species? Why would you take the side of an authority you can never hold or share in? It is reasonable, almost, for a lowly person to stick up for the powers and rights of the rich and powerful. You might just be rich and powerful enough one day to benefit from tax cuts or increases in the power of a company director or king, it is vaguely conceivable if a bit far fetched, but you will never be God, never in an eternity of eternities. God would be your natural enemy. Think about this in Freudian terms for a moment, a man will always be in a tense relationship with his father because the time will come when he has to take over the father's role as head man of the family (even if not the same family). But you will never be God. Ever. God is going nowhere and he is not going to give up any power. You will be at his mercy for ever. He made you in his power. He made you his slave, and he wants you to thank him.

You did not elect God. You have not been asked to decide whether God should have power over you or not. The church is telling you that you were born a slave and you can do nothing about it, but not only that but that you should be happy and grateful for this situation. God wants you to thank him for making you his slave. You can read that sentence any way you want, pause on any word, emphasize any word. Thank you master for making me. Thank you for making me a slave. Thank you for enslaving my parents. Thank you for allowing me to stay here as your slave. Feel free to punish me any way you want and I would not dream of asking you to explain to me why you do what you do. I trust you are doing it for the best despite the fact that I have no evidence at all.

The church is the ultimate Uncle Tom, siding with the natural enemy of your people, all people, our species. Isn't it time we stood up and declared that this is not acceptable? Why would being a slave of a powerful master be a good thing compared to being the master of your own life?

They say that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. A decent creator would not abuse his power. What do we think of fathers who abuse their children? Do we consider them to be the finest of our species or do we consider them to be the worst kind of monsters? What kind of a father arranges for his son to be tortured to encourage himself to forgive those who tortured him? What kind of a father encourages his children to rape and murder out of jealousy? What kind of a father allows his children to suffer while he has the power to make everything better for them and chooses not to do so and not to explain why?

I don't have a father like that. I don't want to be a father like that. If anybody has a father like that they have my sympathy and if there is anything I can do to help you escape from him please let me know, it would be the decent thing to do.
