Martin - this is lengthy and unedited. You have many ideas that
deserve answers. I have tried to respond to two of your e-mails
so we should be up-to-date. The Gilgamesh/Noah’s Flood
is better put forward at: http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs2004/0329gilgamesh.asp#f10
A Christian’s faith is not blind - or at least, it doesn’t
have to be. Christianity appeals to facts of history that are clearly
recognizable and accessible by everyone. We do this through historical
probability, and the resurrection is the basis in historical probability
for investigating the Christian faith. Deductive logic stems from
self-evident formal axioms, i.e. if A then A, involving no matter
of fact. Fact depends on probability. We cannot prove Jesus is
the Son of God. Only God can convince you of His deity. Many people
confirm through investigation what they sought out to refute (e.g.
Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel).
Creation is an axiom. You only have to look at the world to know
it did not arrive by slow chance productions.
God’s formal name is YHWH and is translated to mean “I
am” (Exodus 3:14). Time is something we are subjected to.
God exists out of time, requiring neither a beginning nor an end.
He has always existed and He always will exist.
God created the heavens and the earth in seven literal days. Everything
was made complex from the beginning. In truth, we have decreased
in complexity as a result of sin. Entropy correlates with what
is taught in the Genesis account. Again, this doesn’t prove
the supernatural but it does not contradict it either.
God created everything perfect. Eve was deceived but Adam directly
disobeyed God thereby bringing sin on the whole human group. Genesis
3 explains the Fall and why we live in the world we live in today.
The question is better phrased, “Why did God ordain that
sin be?” God did not create sin. God is perfect and cannot
sin, but that does not mean he cannot know what sin is. Satan refused
to restrain his desire to be God himself. He coveted God’s
position, power, and authority breaking the First, Second, Sixth,
Ninth, and Tenth Commandments. Satan discovered sin and wanted
it knowing what it would bring. He did not believe he would fail
in his quest to overcome his Maker. God did not create us to be
puppets. He gave us a free will: to obey him or ourselves. Because
of his perfect and sinless character our God is a consuming fire
for sin. If people die without the atoning blood of Jesus Christ
for their transgressions then they have to be sentenced to Hell
because it is the just punishment of the One who is blameless of
sin.
The Second Commandment forbids us to make a god to suit ourselves:
it’s called idolatry (Exodus 20: 3-17). Christians, if they
are not false converts (people who name the name of Jesus but never
depart from sin), repent of their sins (by turning from them) and
put their trust in Jesus that He died for the covering of our sins
- the perfect Lamb - and has washed us clean in the sight of God.
Christians can fall or be tempted into sin, but because of the
new nature God gives us when we are saved by an act of His will
for trying to honestly seek Him, Christians do not, or should not,
seek sin out. This is all done by God the Father, God the Son,
and the Holy Spirit.: one God in three persons. This is so that
He can get all the glory.
God does not get angry as we do. Emotions control and overpower
us. God is master of His anger and His anger is just. He is not
slow in returning, but is patient, allowing people to experience
His grace.
Mormonism and Islam can be dismissed by contradictory scientific
observations and failed prophecies in their holy books. The Bible
is the only one that transcends every avenue where other religions
fail. Just because you deny the Bible as anything authentic, that
does not take away the fact of its prophetic nature, its scientific
statements, and how it does not contradict the evidence we see
in science but fits harmoniously with the evidence that has been
discovered.
To make the claim that denying evolution is like denying arithmetic
is simply fallacious. Arithmetic has self-provable axioms. Evolution,
in the macroevolution definition, is based 100% on interpretation
and models of assumption. Evolution is a speculation about how
matter changed into the world we see today, assuming that the world
had always existed at a uniform rate over eons of years. It is
a theory without fact despite the years and money desperately spent
trying to prove a theory that cannot fit all the pieces together.
Science is the method of observation, substantiated by verifiable
tests. Evolutionists and Christians begin with the same science.
Their interpretations render different conclusions. Evolution,
like Christian origins, goes back to historical probability. Evolution
isn’t an objective interpretation. If anything contradicts
it, the evidence either goes unnoticed, ignored, or avoided. The
number of anomalies in the fossil strata, the fact that the earth
is covered in about 85% sedimentation, that clams were found fossilized
before death on the peak of Everest, and the complete contradiction
of the evolutionary theory pointed out by other scientists with
the same accolades as the ones who promote it, are serious challenges
to the evolutionary model. No such challenges face Scripture. There
are excuses and reasons why people want to deny it and disregard
it is fantastical literature, but the arguments are judgments and
preferences on why it can’t be right. No Christian opponents
could figure out how to explain the missing body of Jesus, especially
since His body was heavily guarded by Roman soldiers, so they made
excuses to deny the teaching of His resurrection. They had no proof:
only excuses. That is the same with people who deny God and believe
evolution: no proof: only excuses. Evolution is not fact, it is
a faith: a faith based on the accuracy assumed to the assumptions
applied in evolutionary interpretation. If faith is not a virtue,
in your opinion, why is it you have such strong faith in atheism
and evolution? “Science” is misused interchangeably
with evolution. Evolution is one interpretation of the data: Scripture
is another.
Opinions don’t make the Bible mythical. Use as many adjectives
as you want to describe your view of God and His holy Word, but
that does not disprove its authority. It is a rhetorical tactic
to make it sound silly and deniable. It proves nothing, except
perhaps, your attitude towards God.
The Roman Emperor Nero had no reasons for killing Christians:
they were no threat to Rome. Christianity was not some insurgent
propaganda: Jesus proved that and so did all who refused to deny
Christ. Nero didn’t have to believe in Hell to want to kill
Christians. He killed Christians because he hated them and was
a tool of Satan to try to wipe them out. They were killed for their
belief in Christ.
The Apostles and early Christians did not die for some lie they
concocted. They died because they knew the truth they had witnessed.
They were fully convinced of the resurrection based on their eye
witness accounts.
Jesus was a real historical person. How can anyone deny such evidence?
Tacitus, Lucian, Josephus, Suetonius, Pliny the Younger, Tertullian,
Thallus, Phlegon, Justin Martyr, and the Jewish Talmuds are all
non-biblical sources for the historicity of Jesus Christ. Christianity
would not exist on a mythological character who never existed.
There was a man name Jesus Christ who claimed to be the God Himself.
He came to defeat death by atoning for our sins so those who trust
in Him may be found righteous by His blood on the Day of Judgment
and dwell eternally with God.
The reason why Christianity is attacked for the days of Catholic
dominance and persecution arises from a misunderstanding of true
and false conversion. Many people claim to be Christians and perform
horrendous acts in the name of Christ, but that does not make them
Christians. True believers are shown with time. God will grow them
in righteousness, not of their own works but by their own choice.
1 John 3 is a test for Christians to examine if they are in the
faith and showing fruits of the Spirit. The false believers are
wolves in the clothing of sheep.
Many people in other parts of the world, like China and Islamic
based countries, have everything to lose by becoming Christians,
even their own lives. They die for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Thomas Huxley made the right accusation with the wrong intent,
concerning Christians who believe in evolution. A Christian cannot
believe in evolution and the Bible. The two contradict each other.
Huxley used this to try to get Christians to accept evolution and
give up Scripture. He is right in one way, though. Any Christian
who subjects the Bible to secular interpretations on the origins
of the universe deny the very foundational doctrines which are
essential to the purpose of Jesus Christ. These type of Christians
are compromised in their beliefs. They can still be saved by faith,
even if they misunderstand their hypocritical theology.
Denying the supernatural existence of God does not mean the supernatural
does not exist. You simply choose to believe it does not exist
because you do not receive the supernatural signs you believe would
convince you. The story of Lazarus and the Rich Man is clear. Even
a person you know resurrecting from the dead and warning you to
repent while you have time would convince you. You do not really
have an intellectual problem: you have a moral one; namely, rebellion
to God.
Christians and atheists have the same observational science to
begin with. The difference is in their interpretations of what
science shows us.
The OT prophecy of the Messiah’s rejection: Isaiah 53:3, “He
was despised and forsaken of men,/A man of sorrows and acquainted
with grief;/And like one from whom men would hide their face/He
was despised, and we did not esteem Him.” Psalm 69:4,8 - “Those
who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head;/Those
who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies;/What
I did not steal, I have to restore…I have become estranged
from my brothers/And an alien to my mother’s sons.” Psalm
118:22, “The stone which the builders rejected/Has become
the chief corner stone.”
John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God.”
Mark 13:1,2 is where Jesus prophecies the destruction of the Temple.
Jesus not only talked to the Samaritan woman at the well in John
4 and others in that same Samaritan village, he also healed the
Syrophoenician’s daugher, and preached and healed through
Gentile villages on His final journey to Jerusalem where He knew
He was to be crucified.
Luke 24:44-49, Matthew 24:14, the book of Acts all explain the
spread of the gospel to Gentile nations.
Ezekiel 36 prophecies the regathering of Israel after their dispersion
among all the nations.
Galatians 3:7-9 explaining the justification of the Gentiles to
receive the gospel.
There is a veil over the nation of Israel as to the identity of
Jesus as fulfilling the requirements of the Messiah as prophesied
in the Old Testament. This is because of the ones who rejected
Him when He came to them. John 1:11, “He came to His own,
and those who were His own did not receive Him.”
Most chief priests (those who mainly were members of the Sanhedrin),
scribes, and Pharisees were the Jewish religious leaders that were
supposed to lead their people to God. Instead they murdered Him
according to His prearranged plan to take on the sins of the world
so that we would be free to be made right with him by having our
sins forgiven, and our relationship with God restored.
John 1:10, “He was in the world, and the world was made
through Him, and the world did not know Him.”
The undeserving hatred of Jews is another prophecy fulfilled.
The horrific consequences of the holocaust paved way for the reinstatement
of the nation of Israel. No specific passage directly mentions
the holocaust, but the fact that they would be persecuted by Gentiles
is a common motif throughout much of their exilic dispersions.
The Documentary Hypothesis was postulated by secular scholars
to harmonize their understanding of the compilation of Scripture
with their belief and acceptance of evolution.
Evolution preached faithfully by secular
humanists is the easiest
scapegoat for moral consequence and accountability. This type of
thinking is the most basic way out of any dilemma whether moral
or intellectual. Usually, evolutionists add more time to increase
a nonsensical possibility. Anything is possible in evolution and
secular foundations. Hardly anything is probable by that understanding.
People who seek truth do not ignore the possibility of anything
until such research makes some things more probable than others.
You believe lying is wrong, yet you are indoctrinated in a lie.
A theory that is unsupported by facts and held only by popular
belief, relying on assumptions that guide those interpretations
is a ridiculous argument for intellectual truth.
Evolution is unproven. It is a theory, and one that should be
discarded, if scientists actually studied the world we see objectively.
Evolution is intellectual mythology. It combines the observable
fact of variation, also known as microevolution, with the assumption
that variation probably, through lengths of any amount of time,
can make new creatures. Bad reasoning. Variation has never made
any animal or person into anything than the same kind that it has
always been, e.g., a bird is still a bird, a dog is a dog, a cat
a cat.
Because you presuppose there is no God, you assume there are no
predictive prophecies and no truth to the validity of Scripture.
I was not always a Christian. I once professed atheism myself
and sought to disprove the Bible. I used to read it, as you call
it, with an “open-mind” but I was not open-minded at
all. I believed evolution was true and so I was prejudiced to look
at Scriptures without objective interest. It was because the Bible’s
probability was shown to me and the fact that evolution, from its
inception, has never been proven right, that I began to research
more deeply into the history and truths of the Bible. However,
the intellect is only so useful; the intellect cannot save. Only
God can save us and He is faithful to do so to those who truly
want to know Him when they seek Him with a humble heart.
The existence of God does not depend on universal agreement. All
true believers have a personal relationship with God. They experience
the power of the living God. Disbelief does not negate God’s
existence.
God gives grace to the humble and law to the proud. He has given
understanding to those who realize their mind is too inept to deny
God. He has given understanding of Himself to those who want to
know. He’s given more proof than anyone needs.
You said, “You really are being deliberately stubborn about
circular reasoning. The Bible cannot be used to prove that God
wrote the Bible or that God exists. To accept the Bible as evidence
requires you to already assume the thing you are attempting to
prove, your analogy of the President and the White House also shows
how clearly biased you are, you think you are attempting to prove
something which is known to be true. But the existence of God is
not known to be true. Those people who do not believe in your god
or any god do not share your assumptions. Any proof that is meant
to satisfy those who do not share your assumptions has to start
from the solid ground of shared knowledge and use logic, not be
based upon assumptions that only a faith-head makes.”
Are you not guilty of the same things? You use your evolutionary
assumptions to prove there is no God. You have to take both into
account with historical probability. Evolutionists could do away
with Christianity once and for all if they could prove that the
Bible made a false prophecy. Or, one piece of evidence with probable
truth is needed: to prove Jesus did not resurrect. The fact that
no evolutionary argument can oppose the resurrection of Christ
with any solid historical probability, truly leaves the trust in
Jesus up to a substantiated faith. If the Bible was mythological
it would easily be regarded as such today. Christians don’t
believe in the Bible to make it true. They experience God, whose
Spirit abides in true believers.
God chose Abraham to be the father of all nations. It is a faith
nation. The Israelites are the fulfilled promise of God to Abraham
as told in Genesis. Abraham was Mesopotamian. The Hebrew people
did not become a full nation until their exile in Egypt.
Noah’s great grandson founded Babylon. Why wouldn’t
they have a flood story?
Righteousness is summed up in the perfection of God. The Ten Commandments
are the foundation of His revealed character. He has never sinned.
We do. Therefore, the law teaches us how we fail to live up to
the perfect righteousness of God and leads us to an understanding
about why we need Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour. Because
God is perfect, he cannot have sin in his presence. That is why
the preparation of the priests in Israel was so elaborate. Sin
is an abomination to God and sin is defined as breaking God’s
moral Law: the Ten Commandments. Coveting is wanting what others
have to the point of overpowering desire, wanting to be someone
else and refusing to be who you are, etc. It is an “I want” nature,
that causes people to do whatever it takes to get it, or give up
on trying to live well until they get it (to name a couple of ways
a person can covet).
God is not a monster. He is just. Should a judge let a murderer
go free because he confessed his crime and he was just being true
to his character? The judge would be corrupt if he didn’t
punish the murderer for his crime. He should feel guilty, be sorry,
and never do that again, but that does not take away the law he
broke and the consequences of breaking that law. Death is the consequence
of sin, and hell is the consequence of dying in them. There are
degrees of punishment in Hell. Everyone will be judged accordingly.
God is just to judge because He knows everything and the motivation
and heart of everyone. He is patient and gives innumerable chances
to those who refuse Him.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1).
If you decide there is no God, you will interpret the world based
on that decision, and live as a justified hypocrite who is perfect
by being as bad as everyone else.
God is in control of His anger and wrath. We are controlled by
ours. We judge by our emotions. God judges with a perfect knowledge.
You cannot submit Him to human thinking when He is above it. If
God had a human brain, with our human limitations then we may be
justified in our complaints with Him. But He is above us, unstained
by sin, perfect and holy.
I’m Canadian and I live in Canada (on Vancouver Island).
Historical texts are artefacts. Not to mention correlation with
activities of studied periods of time.
Why discuss some presupposed theory when it has never been proven
to be right? It is still a theory (only do to popularity), despite
a century and a half of serious research. The evidence is further
and further away. There is nothing that stands the test of genuine
scientific evaluation.
You don’t know that for certain that the Bible is a made
up fairy tale. You base that on the interpretations you would rather
accept, not on fact. It is purely a choice of interpretation.
I don’t think I am morally superior to you because I too
was dead in my sins. I’ve already told you. I am not better
than you, I am only infinitely better off than you unless you repent
before you die.
You seem self-righteous. I know you have probably told a lie at
least once in your life and the Bible says, that even if the only
sin you ever committed was one lie, you would still need a Saviour
because that one sin would stain you and make you imperfect, as
an ink stain on a white shirt would ruin the shirt.
You read the Bible already assuming it is false. How is that approaching
Scripture with an open-mind?
I will not test God. God operates in the way He has revealed to
us. Besides, I’ve already explained to you that if you do
not accept Scriptures, you will not accept any miracle no matter
how great it is. But so you will know that God is true if you are
still given a chance to live to see it: Israel will be attacked,
led by Russia and Iran, and God will miraculously save them, defeating
the enemies of Israel. Also, when the Christians are raptured,
or caught up, with the Lord - meaning we vanish instantly from
earth to your eyes - you will know that the word of the Lord is
true. And if you have the chance to witness this, reflect on God’s
words and do not be deceived by the false explanations and the
one who will pretend to come in peace and restore the world.
You wrote, “I have one last question for you, please answer
as honestly as you can: how long would you last in the real hell
of another god before you admitted you were wrong?”
On this hypothetical question of assuming that there is actually
another possibility of some other unrevealed god that could challenge
our understanding of “I am”, then if there was such
a god, I would be instantly convinced upon my death. What you fail
to suggest in this baiting question to try to hang me on to question
my understanding of whether or not I am right is that no other
documents exist on par with challenges of apologetics regarding
the Bible. God exists beyond my opinions, whether I understand
Him correctly or not.
God works the way He is described in the Bible, and Jesus Christ
is also God. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He does
not change; He never makes a mistake; He is perfect.
God does not want to send you to Hell and neither do I - that
is why I am debating you. You will put yourself there if you trust
in your own righteousness. Either way, you will be seen as God
sees you, and God will be glorified because of His justice in punishing
evil wherever it is found.

I was not always a Christian. I once professed atheism myself and
sought to disprove the Bible.
Prove it. It is an easy and glib claim to make,
I want to see some evidence. While you are at it some evidence that
Lee Strobel and Josh McDowell were ever atheists would be good. Lee
Strobel published one book before he turned to writing exclusively
about religion, that other book was nothing to do with religion at
all and not coincidentally it is very hard to get hold of, it didn't
make him much money. Where is Strobel or McDowell's demolition of
the Koran or the Book of Mormon? Where is any material written by
these two authors who apparently sought to discredit the Bible which
was written while they were zealous atheists?
Discrediting the Bible is easy. The continued existence of the world
discredits it. As you wrote yourself a single unfulfilled prophesy
is all it would take to cast doubt upon and therefore discredit the
Bible. Hello? Are you there? If so your Bible is discredited. The
world should have ended in the generation of those who heard Jesus
preach, he promised them that. Jesus was a false prophet, hence a
liar, and therefore he could not possibly be (the son of) a perfect
god. That is the fatal flaw in your argument, the fact that you are
alive to argue. There are thousands of contradictions in the Bible
but one is sufficient to blow your literalist religion out of the
water without any hope of saving it. You are the living proof that
you are fundamentally and irredeemably wrong.

I am seriously concerned for your sanity. Your religion is teaching
you to lie in the name of truth and think you are better (in the
only way that really matters) for doing so.
Repeatedly I have told you that I have no regard at all for the
Bible and still you keep reciting it as if it was meant to be impressive.
It really doesn't impress me at all. I do not share any fixed points
from your universe. Debating with me quoting the Bible is like trying
to score a touchdown in soccer, it is wrong-headed, futile, damaging
to your personal credibility and embarrassing to watch.
I have read the Bible with an open mind, prepared to find out what
it is. I have been prepared to be impressed by it at times and it
has failed to impress.
Do you really think I am deliberately trying to find the Bible and
religion absurd? Why would I want to do that? It doesn't make any
sense. After being a public atheist for eight years and a private
atheist for another twenty four years before that wouldn't the best
career move I could possibly make be to publicly embrace the religion
espoused by my mother, father, sister and wife? Move over Strobel,
Lewis and McDowell let a real ex-atheist have the pulpit and the
book deals. Why don't I do that? I have too much self respect.
It is much easier to read Genesis as the recording of an acceptable
version of tribal mythology, the stories of kings and prophets as
histories written by men with powerful vested interests. The Gospels
are harder to categorize. The fact that they are filled with pious
lies is self-evident. Some of the passages added to the story to
read as if they were prophesies fulfilled are laughably inept such
as the tale of Jesus riding both an ass and its colt at the same
time because the author was unfamiliar with an old fashioned idiom.
Any student of literature should have the analytical tools necessary
to see what the Bible really is simply by reading it without preconceived
convictions as to its significance. The story of the Garden of Eden
is so obviously a myth of the sort we come across in all cultures
that it is toe-curlingly embarrassing to have to think that some
people in a country that my country is militarily allied to actually
take this to be history. It almost makes me ashamed to be human.
It's a bloody talking snake, a walking god and a magical tree embodying
the concept of knowledge! Hello! Sanity paging religion! Come in
please your time is up, please vacate the moral high ground and hide
your faces in shame.
It looks like bullshit. It smells like bullshit. We can see the
bull and there's nothing else in the field that is anything like
big enough to be the source. We really don't have to pretend to be
open-minded about it any longer just because we weren't around to
witness the bull in action. It is a Jewish tribal creation myth and
as such it stands comparison alongside all other tribal myths. Hebrew
mythology is to me merely a source of literary allusions just like
Greek, Roman and Norse myths. I regard Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah exactly
the same as I regard Odin/Woden/Wotan, Jupiter/Jove or Zeus.
Intelligent civilized people don't need myths and lies like this
any more. Without the help of religion we have come a long way to
making our societies better than they have ever been before. We don't
murder old women in the name of punishing witchcraft. We don't allow
slavery, at all, not even the Hebrew model of slavery lite endorsed
by God. We don't persecute people for being attracted to members
of their own sex as if that somehow damaged us. We don't allow men
to marry many women, keep concubines and punish adultery by stoning.
We have developed secular morality that is superior to the dysfunctional
sexual prudery and patriarchal self-interest characterized by religious
visions of what constitutes morality.
Jesus is one of many characters who is composed of a large amount
of myth which may contain the life of a single person or an amalgam
of several people but buried in huge amounts of detail which has
been invented by people who thought they were serving a higher truth
by inventing lies.
Some people are clearly historical but have apocryphal myths attached
to them to varying degrees:
George Washington
Benjamin Franklin
Davy Crockett
Nikola Tesla
Howard Hughes
Albert Einstein
Adolf Hitler
Henry the Eighth
Richard the Lionheart
Julius Caesar
Nero
Butch Cassidy
Wyatt Earp
Lawrence of Arabia
Attila the Hun
Genghis Khan
Napoleon
Then there are people who clearly existed but which people feel
free to mythologize at will such as Jack the Ripper. Then there are
people who are clearly fictional that some people have often taken
to be historical such as Sherlock Holmes. Then there are people who
are clearly historical but myths have built up around and people
have taken to believe have not died, such as Elvis Presley and Jim
Morrison.
There is another category of people who are based on real people
but so much obvious myth and well-meaning fictional "colouring
in" of their character and story has been layered on top of
the history that now they are buried in it. The classic examples
are Robin Hood and King Arthur but we could add El Cid and Spartatus.
The past will always be impenetrable, definitive evidence is very
rare.
Jesus can be clearly seen to be an amalgam of myths of different
sources which are layered in such a way that it is by no means clear
whether there was ever a man or men underneath them. Some stories
are obviously mythic others have detail which could suggest they
may be based on truth. The existence of details of geography and
historical and cultural references do not prove a story genuine,
James Bond stories are full of real hotels, casinos, mountains, beaches,
cocktails, cigarette brands, cable cars and railway stations but
their stories are fiction.
No non-Christian has written direct evidence about the life of Jesus.
None of them. Your familiar list of ancient authors detail the activities
of early Christians or construct a historical character behind the
Christian movement based upon hearsay. The nearest to contemporary
of your "witnesses" is Josephus, whose account has been
tampered with by Christians. Josephus is a less effective witness
to the historicity of Jesus than I am to that of James Bond as Jesus
is reported to have vanished from the Earth a good two years before
Josephus was conceived. All your other "witnesses" are
further removed in time still. The best witness to the historicity
of Jesus is a literate man who lived in Jerusalem at the time Jesus
was meant to have been greeted as a king and then crucified. You
might have heard of the guy, Saul of Tarsus. Saul's meeting with
Jesus came after his death and his ascension. Has it ever occurred
to you that it is very strange that of all the people who wrote about
Jesus the first one to do so hadn't met him in the flesh and was
almost spookily uninterested in anything that Jesus did before his
mythic blood sacrifice? And yet Paul became the leader of the early
church ahead of those who had apparently spent months living with
Jesus.
Have you any idea why the fact that the Earth's rocks are mostly
sedimentary is much better evidence for conventional geological theories
than for your own faith based speculations? If there was a global
flood Mount Ararat would be the highest mountain and the rest of
the world would be covered with this mythical fast setting instant
fossil-creating rock (without neatly differentiated strata showing
different groups of animals being laid down in different layers).
I have studied geology myself, getting out and looking at the rocks
and sediments that are really out there. I have seen nothing that
is inconsistent with the Earth being ancient and nothing that suggests
this Mickey Mouse hypothesis you are spouting. Conventional science
makes predictions which are testable. Creation Science is an abomination.
How many Texas oilmen use the principles of Noachian flood geology
to tell them where to find oil? None whatsoever. When it comes to
finding oil Texans believe in evolution, plate tectonics and an ancient
Earth. American Christians may plough millions into idiotic religious
quests but they don't do business that way.
Evolutionary understanding allows scientists to make predictions
about what animals and plants may exist in a certain environment,
Biblical literalists have to just shrug their shoulders and say God
knows. Could there be a green native hare in New Zealand? Evolutionary
science says no chance, the Bible says if God wills it, and the same
goes for mermaids and unicorns.
Your faith in the story about the resurrection is pitiful. Not a
single person who wasn't a Christian ever saw Jesus after the crucifixion,
(or indeed before) There is therefore precisely zero evidence for
it ever taking place. Nobody in their right mind would take the testimony
of a cultist at face value, much less the word of all of them. So
we have a man who might have lived who might have been killed whose
body might have been guarded and might have gone missing. Right.
I am as convinced by that as a customs officer would be sniffing
a bottle of gin while a nun swears it contained water from Lourdes
when she packed her bag. We know why Christians would lie here, and
we know how religiously inspired people will do remarkably brave
and stupid things, such as fly aircraft into buildings, castrate
themselves, murder their family, set themselves alight. Judging the
earliest Christians by the standards of reasonable behaviour expected
from normal rational people without strong beliefs is simply silly,
we know they were cultists filled with religious mania. We know cultists
witness what they are meant to witness. Rabid dogs are more sane
and reliable than people filled with religious fervour.
"No Christian opponents could figure out how to explain the
missing body of Jesus" Name any. No contemporary non-Christian
sources exist for any details of the life or afterlife of Jesus.
None whatsoever. The only account of a crucifixion comes from Christians.
The only account of a life of Jesus comes from Christians. This is
as much of a mystery as explaining details of the life of Luke Skywalker
while avoiding any mention of him having special powers - the only
versions of the history of Jesus all have a supernatural element
and a resurrection and only people who want to believe the whole
story told any story at all. "There was this uppity rabbi and
the Romans killed him" isn't much of a story. Jesus didn't make
any waves. Eventually there were enough Christians around to make
some waves, by that point non Christians took some notice and assumed
that the person the Christians were talking about as being killed
by the Romans probably was killed by the Romans but probably wasn't
the Son of God, as you would. Pretty much as you have done about
those fake Messiahs, false prophets and reincarnations of Jesus you
have not bothered to go out of your way to hear preach a message
you have absolutely no intention of listening to. You assume they
exist and are not what they claim to be. You are quite happy with
your risen Lord safely dead and up in heaven where he belongs, not
down on Earth impersonating a religious nutter, or is it the other
way around? Whatever. You would not have been an early Christian,
things like that don't happen when you are alive, do they? Revelations
are revealed to other people in other times and places, holier times,
holier places. Not in 2007 on Vancouver Island. Like so many conservatives
you worship a long dead radical.
Nero persecuted Christians. Hitler persecuted Jehovah's Witnesses.
Neither tyrant believed the religions of those they persecuted, neither
group of victims was proven right by being victimized. Christians
have persecuted witches, Jews, atheists and Communists. Persecution
and martyrdom proves nothing except man's ability to persecute and
to stand up with defiance against persecution which should never
have been in doubt.
Evolution is a fact. Evolution by natural selection is a theory,
one as sound as the theory of the circulation of the blood which
explains the facts of the circulation of the blood. Without evolution
biology makes no sense at all. Evolution explains forms, functions,
distribution patterns, behaviour, desires, drives: the whole of modern
biology depends upon evolution. Making out that evolution is unproven
is absurd, it is by an enormous margin the most tested and most confirmed
theory in the history of human thinking. Academic immortality awaits
anybody who can disprove evolution. It hasn't happened and don't
expect it to happen.

A grave misconception of the coming Messiah plagued the Jewish
people in the time of Jesus: they thought the Messiah was to come
in the flesh and establish a kingdom for 1000 years. They failed
to realize the reason for their animal sacrifices: blood was required
for the covering of sin. It was the perfect blood of the atonement
Lamb, Jesus the Messiah, that allowed the relationship of sinful
people to be restored to God. Jesus will return to establish His
1000 year reign at the end of the Tribulation to fulfill the prophecies
of Scripture. Then, Satan will be cast into Hell as will all who
are judged without the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.
Jesus never promised to return in the time of the early Church.
Many last day prophecies await fulfillment before that time arrives.
So let me try to understand you. You think that we cannot figure
out the historical accuracy surrounding Jesus Christ based on early
Church activity and historical documents; yet, based on several
assumptions we can understand millions of years of earth and evolutionary
history?
Evolution is a concept with theories that try to support it. I’ve
explained already that natural selection is understandable only
in variation but not in macroevolution. Natural selection has never
created new information nor has it created a new creature: only
a variation of the same kind of creature. Variation does not prove
a molecules to man theory. It proves that all kinds have an ability
to adapt to certain areas. However, adaptation can also cause a
lack of information, and if conditions reverted back to what they
were before natural selection took place, the so called evolved
creatures could be in danger of extinction if they lost the information
that allowed them to survive the previous change.
Evolution is neither proved nor disproved in concept. It is an
idea that seeks support. There is no support and the whole concept
relies on an exemplary amount of assumptions to satisfy possibilities.
Is evolution - molecules to man progression possible? There is
no supporting evidence with any degree of satisfactory probability.
You sound certain about concepts that take the seed of truth of
variation, and apply them to an “anything’s possible
with enough time” theory.
Evolutionary science is an oxymoron. Evolutionists use truths
understood in science to make long thought out assumptions to give
credit to an idea which is entirely dependent on a lot of “if” factors.
The only fact true of evolution is the fact of it being an interpretation.
You cannot use what you see today to measure millions of years
of history, when evolutionists cannot even grasp six thousand years
of human history. You have to assume that things are the same today
as they were then, and there is no supported fact that the earth
has always remained the same.
Biology is not dependent on evolution, but its explanation of
origins is. Science is not infallible. Scientists are always finding
errors in science. For example, global warming was said to be caused
by humans. Now many scientists agree that several natural factors
contribute to global warming and we do not know for certain what
humans are actually contributing. That is because of the models
based on assumptions used to interpret data. If our assumptions
are wrong, then so are the conclusions drawn from the data used
to support those assumptions.
Manuscript evidence for the Bible is so vast and widespread that
all documents correlate exceptionally well. The documents are a
faithful recording about what people wrote and what they believed
in their writings. It does not contradict anything we discover
in archaeology or history, especially when accounting for probability.
Myths are known to be myths - although King Arthur and Robin Hood
are caught up in them that their true history is blurred, the same
assumptions cannot be made for Jesus.
The Bible is a stumbling stone to those who are proud because
you cannot see beyond your desire to be convinced of God’s
existence. The Sanhedrin looked for the same signs from Jesus,
but as they challenged Him while He hanged on the Cross - asking
for a sign to convince them of their error - they refused to believe
even when Christ resurrected.
Jesus appeared to over 500 people at one time, all the apostles,
and many other disciples, before calling Saul of Tarsus into service.
There are no contradictions in the Bible if you would actually
move beyond your attempts to do anything to keep yourself from
believing in the contents of Scripture.
You attack the Scriptures as being untrustworthy because it was
written by Christians. Does that mean that we cannot trust British
history if it was written by a British person? It does not matter
who wrote it but in what the writing said and if there is truth
to it. Jesus is not some fictional character even if you desperately
want to make him one through your fallible opinions.
Christian opponents who could not understand how the body of Jesus
went missing: the Roman guards, and the Sanhedrin (composed of
chief priests, elders and scribes). Most of the Jewish leaders
could not figure this out. They were the ones who had the Roman
guard stationed. To deny the historical probability of this event
is to overlook the documented history by laughing it off as some
fictional tale while embarking on a greater one yourself by thinking
you can parse history yourself based on your intellectual presuppositions.
You can do this only through speculation. You leave out what doesn’t
fit your own fairy tale.
You are a victim of indoctrination. If you cannot see the interpretive
nature of your favoured and relied on concept, then you are not
thinking critically, but thinking how secular humanists have programmed
you to think.
Ken Ham and his team at www.answersingenesis.com expose the fallible
nature of evolution. It has been proven: you just won’t accept
the evidence because of your impenitent heart.
Over 300 prophecies were needed to be fulfilled in one Messiah.
Jesus fulfilled all of them as can be seen in any concordance on
the prophecies completed in Jesus.
Evolution has already been shown to be improbable in light of
the evidence we can study with scientific principles. The evidence
is refused, not refuted - the same is true with the evidence of
Christianity.

This has degenerated into a dialogue of the deaf. You are incapable
of appreciating the difference between truth and something which is asserted
by your religion. Your definition of truth and reality is so wide of
the mark that it is probably impossible for you to understand the way
I think or the way the world really is. This is your problem, not mine,
no matter how sincerely you believe the contrary.
You believe that believing that the Bible is inerrant makes you a better
person. It doesn't. It makes you a deluded fool. Yes I know that is what
the Bible calls atheists and as I have explained numerous times that
cuts absolutely no ice with me, the Bible is not inerrant, it is not
the word of any kind of god and much of it is not even well written.
The Bible is a loose collection of writings incoherently written and
incompetently edited by many anonymous, fallible, deluded and often manipulative
men.
Being taken in by the spell of antiquity and the stink of piety does
not say anything good about your character. It shows you to be weak and
needy, looking for false certainties.
Your beliefs about evolution are clearly a faith stance: you don't want
evolution to be true so you believe it isn't and you believe that the
evidence supports you. The evidence does not support you. As I have repeatedly
stated nobody has studied biology or geology and been drawn to the conclusions
that the only way to make sense of it is to assume it was all made by
a god a few thousand years ago. Creationist science is the oxymoron.
There are millions of people who have studied biology and geology and
lost all belief in a literal interpretation of Genesis. I am not aware
of any who have gone from atheism, Buddhism, Hinduism etc. and been drawn
to conclude that what they have studied in biology or geology is incompatible
with an ancient Earth and a gradual appearance of species due to evolution
and can somebody point them to a theory that explains it better involving
special creation in six days and a global flood. The rival theories in
human origins argue as to whether we migrated out of Africa once as Homo
erectus and again as Homo sapiens or whether modern people are descended
from different H. erectus populations. Nobody is seriously postulating
the Adam and Noah theory and any time-scale for our species less than
60,000 years.
Creation scientists are all literalist believers in the divine inspiration
of Genesis before they get their scientific training. This is not a matter
open to interpretation, it is incontestable fact. There is no debate
in science, real science, about whether evolution has happened, only
about exactly how it has happened. Religious people pretending to be
scientists are trying to stir up a controversy where there is none. Evolution
is as much of a fact as monarchy: while much of it relies on an interpretation
of the past that we cannot by definition be 100% certain about the evidence
is overwhelming, the world around us clearly shows the marks of it and
we can see the processes continuing today.
You will be unable to provide any evidence of anybody believing in a
young Earth interpretation of geology or biology who does not have a
prior belief in a creation myth turned into literalist dogma.
Just because something is totally wrong and thoroughly discredited it
does not follow that its proponents will shut up. Perseverance is evidence
of bloody-minded doggedness not of the rightness of the cause. People
continue to believe that the holocaust was a propaganda stunt. So? They're
wrong. They have been proved wrong in court and in academic debate. Simply
refusing to shut up doesn't prove anything about the absurd claims made.
Holocaust deniers will go to their deaths denying it happened just as
millions of Christians will go to their deaths proclaiming a literal
interpretation of Genesis. A widespread refusal to accept evidence by
people who believe that doing so makes them better people is not of itself
any form of evidence of anything except the power of the human will.
We can trust British history because it was not all written by British
people. Germans, Frenchmen and Italians and others also made mention
of the same events. Julius Caesar is attested to by writers who loved
him, feared him and loathed him. We know George Washington was real because
he was written about by rivals at home and abroad as well as by sycophants,
and these writings were made in his lifetime before the full story of
his life was known. In contrast Jesus was not written about by anybody
at all during the time he was meant to have been alive. Not a single
person made a single note about the activities of the living Jesus. Not
even Christians. The first written accounts of Jesus were written by
Paul who clearly admits he never met the bloke in life and his works
show an astonishing lack of interest in the biographical details of his
Saviour. It was only several decades later that the first gospels appear.
Gospels go on appearing for the next few centuries before being whittled
back by a committee of the Roman state church to four, three which show
clear signs of being based on each other or a common lost source (plagiarism
- a common Christian theme) and one (John) which is notably different
in tone and content.
No gospel has been shown to have been in existence before the destruction
of the Temple. No gospel has been shown to have been a reliable eye witness
account given by the person whose name appears on the title page. The
style of the telling of all the gospels is similar to that of JK Rowling,
the author can see things, such as the thoughts of Jesus when he is alone,
that no genuine witness could possibly see but an imaginative author
can't help but envision.
The same assumptions can and must be made for Jesus as must be used
for other mythical characters involved in mythical-sounding events. If
the events described sound too mythical to be true it is simply madness
not to first ask yourself whether they could have been made up! Pulling
a magic sword out of a stone sounds mythic, it probably is unless you
have good evidence to justify such a belief. A thief taking from the
rich and giving it all away to the poor sounds like a myth, look for
the proof. Simply finding lots of other people who believe it to be true
is not proof! A man being born of a virgin in a stable sounds a bit like
a myth, in fact it sounds like dozens of myths of sons of gods and demigods
such as Dionysus, Attis, Osiris and Mithra. Such god-men also share many
other mythic elements in their stories such as having sacred meals of
bread and wine, going to the underworld to conquer death after being
killed for a crime they were not guilty of, often hanged on a tree or
a cross, often follwed by twelve special followers. One of the many gospels
the church tried to wash its hands of makes a clear point that Jesus
had a mother called Mariam, a sister called Mariam and a wife called
Mariam, which strongly mirrors the myth of Osiris-Dionysus.
The only thing that non-Christian sources confirm about the Gospel stories
is the existence of Christians in the fourth decade of the first century,
something which nobody has ever doubted. Early Christians are clearly
historical, but Christ is not clearly historical. He remains a figure
clouded by doubt and dangerously unreliable witnesses. There cannot possibly
be any worse kind of a witness than one who is religiously motivated.
No source outside Christianity actually attests to seeing Jesus live
or die. They don't doubt a man named Jesus existed because that claim
is not outrageous. If I claimed I went with my brother in a rocket-ship
to Pluto you wouldn't automatically assume I was lying about having a
brother even if you doubted every other detail of the story, but you
have no reason to believe I have a brother (I don't) just no reason to
think that I don't. Similarly Jews and Romans had no reason to believe
in a resurrection or miracles but no particular reason to doubt a life
or a crucifixion. But wouldn't it have been easier to make up a story
in which all the details are fictional and only the places and names
of political leaders are real? That is after all how so many fiction
writers work these days.
You are making a huge error if you ascribe workaday logical thinking
to these people (early members of the Jesus cult) as if they were just
Jewish rubes, ignorant peasants with a towel around their heads, they
were very different to modern day people in the way they were educated,
everything was much more allegorical and symbolic than it is today and
Christianity was a new wannabe mystery religion full of the latest freshest
steaming religious bullshit. Mystery religions had swept across the Eastern
Mediterranean region, everybody was worshipping a son of a god, getting
baptized with water and fire, eating bread and wine and worshipping a
man who had died and gone to hell and returned in triumph. Of course
none of those blokes actually lived in the real world, don't be so silly,
there were many levels of existence between hell and heaven. Heroes and
demigods lived and died on the next landing, but that didn't mean they
weren't real enough to be killed for, and of course martyrdom has long
been the Middle East's sacrament of choice.
Sane people are justifiably sceptical of reports of alien abductions,
and we make a decision that the very fact that people making hard to
believe statements seem so passionately committed to being believed makes
their evidence all the more unreliable. Do you accept reports of being
abducted and anally probed as Gospel? Do you assume that apparently good
people wouldn't lie? Do you take their assurances that they are honest
at face value? Maybe you do, maybe your critical faculties have been
so damaged by religion that you have to replace them with the Satan module:
everything Christian is believable, everything non-Christian is Satanic.
I won't take down my critical defences at all, for anybody, for any
outrageous claim no matter what its source.
Your claim that Jesus did not promise to return in the time of the early
church is simply astounding. How can anybody possibly be so bloody-minded
as that? The words were crystal clear, no interpretation is needed, Jesus
told his disciples that their generation would see the end of the world.
The timing of the gospels is quite interesting here, they appeared after
the Romans had destroyed the Temple but before the last of the disciple's
generation had died. When else would have been a better time? That timing
allowed Jesus to be shown as a prophet, vindicated by the events of the
destruction of the temple they now claim he prophesied but before his
big imminent end of the whole world prophesy was shown to be false. There
is no written evidence from any known source that Jesus prophesied the
destruction of the Temple until after the Temple had been destroyed by
the very historical Romans. Is this perhaps the reason why the three
synoptic gospels seem to have been copied from a lost source? Did the
original source make no mention of the destruction of the Temple, an
anomaly too glaring to allow to continue. So the source (known to biblical
scholars as Q) was available to be used to copy from and add to but not
made known to the whole church and indeed then destroyed lest somebody
make something of Jesus' comic lack of prescience. The Romans destroy
the Temple, the holiest of holies, and the Son of God doesn't know it's
going to happen? That's laughable. Of course as soon as the Gospels are
in circulation the well of prophesy runs dry. You can't pull the retroactive
prophesy trick again with a public domain document. Unless of course
it really is divinely inspired...
Jesus doesn't prophesy anything happening between the destruction of
the Temple and the end of the world (because they were assumed to be
virtually back-to-back) and that is the time the gospels appear in public
and get known, copied and distributed. Jesus did not prophesy the rise
of the church of Rome, the fall of the Roman Empire (well within one
lifetime of the conversion to Christianity), the resistance of the Jews
to his message, the susceptibility of Europe, the discovery of America,
the holocaust etc. etc. The end time prophesies always look about to
happen. There are always earthquakes and people behaving badly. The state
of Israel was founded in 1948, the world didn't end then either. The
end of the world is always nigh if you are susceptible to those kind
of prophesies.
Jesus died 30-36 CE, the Temple was destroyed 70 CE, the only gospel
to mention Jesus making a prophesy about it, Matthew's Gospel, surfaces
80-90 CE.
If Jesus knew the Temple was to be destroyed in the lifetime of some
of his disciples why did he make such a big deal about going there? Why
didn't he tell his people that the butchery and sacrifice of animals
in the temple was pointless because the only sacrifice that really matters
was going to happen just outside the city of Jerusalem?
The notion of atonement via blood sacrifice is barbaric, primitive,
a philosophical dog's breakfast and an embarrassment to Christianity.
How can a god have a need to sacrifice an avatar of himself to placate
his own wrath? It is an eye-poppingly ferret-gurningly insane notion
that the death of a man who wasn't really a man, who wasn't mortal, who
couldn't die, would achieve anything. Which magic sky-god above God the
only god would need to be appeased by a blood sacrifice and how would
that work? I am the great I Am and I need to see myself killed so that
I won't be cross with people yet to born. It is bloody insane! Your entire
religion is simply stark bollocking crazy.
I accept the possibility that the universe might have been created and
even that evolution might have been directed, those ideas are not totally
inconsistent with observations of the world around me but the Hebrew
mythology stuff is ridiculous. It is an insult to the universe to suggest
that its creator would be so twisted and warped as to be bought off by
the blood of an innocent victim who was also himself.
It is also insane to believe that the source of all prophesy could perform
this stunt and then let his church fragment and throw up new cults in
its wake. If your god can part the Red Sea, send plagues, flood the whole
world, create the whole universe, design every living thing why is he
so dumb as to pull the baby in a manger trick and expect that to be enough?
Why doesn't he stop false prophets or destroy the buildings of false
gods and cults?
It seems to me that your god as described is actually totally powerless,
as you would expect from a figment of the imagination. He can't do anything.
Everything that has been achieved has been achieved by people. The gospels
didn't spread themselves, and they only spread down the cultural slope.
Since the conversion of Constantine never has the Christian message gone
from a primitive society to dominate a sophisticated culture. When Christians
have met foreigners with good weapons and well trained fighters the heathen
hordes have remained unconverted, especially if they already had a strong
well-evolved religion that had met and seen off challenges before.
The British could convert red Indians to Protestantism, but not not
well-read Indians who stuck with Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism or Jainism.
While the British had some technological jump on the Indians it wasn't
enough to knock their sense of pride sufficient to get them believing
any old rubbish. Also when the British went into India they didn't cause
mass infections which killed so many of the native people that their
societies collapsed in chaos.
Your god doesn't talk to people who haven't already been introduced
to him. Millions of Christians have claimed to hear God talking to them.
But why didn't he talk to monks and priests of other gods who sit cross-legged
for hours actually trying to tune into the truth of the universe? Why?
My explanation is perfectly simple and straight-forward, yours is weak
and farcical. The great I Am can only convince those who want to be convinced.
Your god can only persuade those people who consciously try to be convinced.
Of course you will now probably be recalling some story of God forcing
himself upon somebody as told in the Bible, the Bible is not true, it
is propaganda for the belief in Hebrew mythology, and like much other
propaganda people are very far from being above lying to make their story
sound more convincing.
Why did Jesus Mk II appear to 500 people rather than the 5,000 he apparently
managed to draw when he was alive? The famous Le
Pétomane would
bring in crowds bigger than that on a daily basis and his only talent
was the ability to fart the French national anthem. The
man the Romans tried to kill, the King of the Jews, the Son of God, back
from the dead to perform for you, last few dates of the farewell tour,
book now! 500?
That's a travesty. Why didn't he appear to the Sanhedrin? Why didn't
he appear to Pilate? Why didn't he appear in the Temple? He didn't do
anything like that. He didn't do anything to get himself noticed by Jews
or Romans who could have attested to his resurrection. This is what you
would expect if the whole story was a lie. He appeared to a claimed moderately
large number of unspecified people and named people who are of the same
mind.
I am curious as to how you think indoctrination by secular humanists
works. How it works and why they (we?) do it. Since I stopped going to
church many years ago nobody has ever taught me what to think, but I
have been taught how to think. I suspect with you things are entirely
the other way around. You have been taught what to think, how not to
think and how to stop yourself thinking what you are not supposed to
think. I am not answerable to anybody for my opinions and I feel entirely
comfortable with the prospect of changing my mind if new evidence comes
along.
I am agnostic as regards the possibility of a creator god existing.
As far as any god ever named by man goes I am an atheist, I don't believe
any such gods exist and I don't believe that anybody else has got a channel
open to the ultimate reality in the universe that I lack. The reason
I am not hearing anything on my psychic radio is down to the fact that
it isn't faulty, it isn't short-circuited to my imagination or perhaps
that such channels only ever exist in the unconsciously controlled imagination.
I have no problem with the idea that God might be real, if he is I want
to know, but I don't want to wish him into a false existence inside my
head. I have seen far too many people full of their imaginary god who
do ridiculous, hurtful and evil things in the name of their belief. To
me it is as clear as day that these very different contradictory messages
could not possibly be coming from the same external source and the alternative
explanation that they are all made up in the minds of those who display
them is entirely reasonable and a much simpler and neater explanation
than postulating a schizophrenic god or a dodgy prayer connection that
allows through a strange mixture of truth and lies that merely co-incidentally
happens to ensure that the god inside them hates the same kind of people
that they want to hate.
How could any god take offence at my refusal to hypnotize myself into
belief? I have no doubt that if I really tried there is a fair chance
that I could persuade myself to believe in God and Jesus. Or Allah. Or
many other gods. All I would have to do is teach myself to try to believe
and to learn how to feel better about myself by believing. The more familiar
the story the easier it would be to believe it.
If any gods want me to believe in them they should tell me themselves.
I'll not surrender my critical faculties to any aggressive illogical
memeplex without a fight and I certainly won't go looking for one to
surrender to.
If you are looking to convince me you had better come up with something
I haven't heard dozens of times before that doesn't rely on me already
believing the ridiculous stuff you seem to have no trouble believing.
You read the Bible as if it could not possibly be false, how is that
having an open mind? It isn't. I read it and see what it is because it
really doesn't matter to me if it is true or false, I don't actually
care, I can see the truth. That's real truth, the kind of truth that
doesn't have to inflate itself with false importance and insist upon
capital letters and especially reverential tones of voice and a total
absence of fart jokes. The real truth doesn't care whether you believe
it, it goes on being true. The truth is that which when you ignore it
does not go away. When people ignore gods they quietly vanish only to
turn up centuries later as characters in video games or the names of
weapons delivery systems.
The universe I see around me allows life to exist but seems totally
oblivious to whether it is having a good time or not.
Why will you not test your god? Do you think he will fail the test?
Are you that much of a coward? There is no reason to conflate refusing
to believe centuries old hearsay about miracles and refusing to believe
a miracle I see occur to me in my own life. Refusing to accept old hearsay
that has been passed on with threats of hell-fire for breaking the Great
Christian Chain-Letter Con is simply sensible, refusing to accept direct
personal experience is stupidity of the first order. So, again, test
your god and prove to yourself and me that he is real. You just missed
a perfect opportunity with the Kashiwazaki earthquake he didn't tell
you about (right on cue, I almost feel guilty, do you?) so let me know:
where's next in the godly cross-hairs?

The term “science” needs to be defined. There are two
aspects of science: operational science and origin science. “Operational
science uses observable, repeatable experiments to try to discover
truth. Origin science relies on relics from the past and historical
records to try to discover truth” (Ken Ham and Terry Mortensen
from their article titled, Science or the Bible). The debate between
creationists and evolutionists is centered on origin science. We
both use the same research methods from both aspects of science.
Our conclusions are derived from our different starting assumptions,
not from the methods of research used. Our conclusions are a result
of conflicting worldviews. A creationist begins with the assumption
of a biblical worldview, and an evolutionist begins with the assumption
of an ant biblical worldview. Many supposed truths from how things
originated in biology, geology, and astronomy, for example, have
been or will be shown to be false. Evolutionists only accept scientific
truth and are willingly to change their view of origins when the
evidence already fits in their preconceived ideas. There are hoards
of “anomalies” silently hidden and conveniently ignored
in the evolutionary worldview that damage the probability of the
theory.
“Which Worldview Is Correct?
There are many ways to test the accuracy of the biblical worldview
against naturalistic atheism (the worldview that controls most
origins research). When our research is based upon biblical truths
about the past, we find that our interpretations of the biological
and geological facts make sense of what we see in the real world,
whereas evolutionary interpretations don’t really fit what
we see.
Let’s look at an example. The Bible says that God created
distinct groups of animals “after their kind” (see
Genesis 1). Starting with this truth of the Bible as one of our
assumptions, we would expect to observe animals divided into distinct
groups, or kinds. Creationists postulate that our creative God
placed phenomenal variability in the genes of each kind, so there
could be considerable variety within each kind. But the preprogrammed
mechanism for variation within the kind could never change one
kind into a different kind, as evolutionists claim and their belief
system requires” (Ken Ham and Terry Mortensen from their
article titled, Science or the Bible).
A weight of evidence is against a supposed source called “Q” for
the gospels: 1) The almost unanimous testimony of the church until
the nineteenth century was that Matthew was the first gospel written;
2) Why would Matthew, an apostle and eyewitness to the events on
Christ’s life, depend on Mark (who was not an eyewitness)
- even for the account of his own conversion?; 3) a significant
statistical analysis of the synoptic gospels has revealed that
the parallels between them are far less extensive and the differences
more significant than is commonly acknowledged. The differences,
in particular, argue against literary dependence between the gospel
writers; 4) Since the gospels record actual historical events,
it would be surprising if they did not follow the same general
historical sequence. Chronological order would not prove that the
authors had read each others’ books. General agreement in
content does not prove literary dependency; 5) The passages in
which Matthew and Luke agree against Mark amount to about one-sixth
of Matthew and about one-sixth of Luke. If they used Mark’s
gospel as a source, there is no satisfactory explanation for why
Matthew and Luke would so often change Mark’s wording in
the same way; 6) The “Two-Source” theory (the alleged
literary dependence) cannot account for the important section in
Mark’s gospel (6:45-8:26) which Luke omits. That omission
suggests Luke had not seen Mark’s gospel when he wrote; 7)There
is no historical or manuscript evidence that the Q document ever
existed; it is purely a fabrication of modern skepticism and a
way to possibly deny the verbal inspiration of the gospels; 8)
Any theory of literary dependence overlooks the significance of
their personal contacts with each other. Mark and Luke were companions
of Paul; the early church, including Matthew, met of a time in
the home of Mark’s mother; and Luke could easily have met
Matthew during Paul’s two year imprisonment in Caesarea.
Critics cannot prove literary dependence for the gospels so there
is no need to explain it. (Extracted from John MacArthur’s
introduction to Mark.
Matthew was written prior to the destruction of the Temple in
A.D. 70. Some scholars suggest as early as A.D. 50. Mark’s
gospel dates between A.D. 50 and A.D. 70, but before the destruction
of the Temple. Luke’s gospel was written before his work
of Acts, which is dated to about A.D. 63. John’s gospel dates
to about A.D. 80-90.
Matthew focuses on Jesus as the promised Messiah. Mark focuses
on the servant-hood of Jesus. Luke focuses on Jesus as the Son
of Man who takes away the sins of the world. John’s gospel
emphasizes the deity of Jesus. Together, they portray the Jesus
fully man and Jesus fully God.
Jesus never gave the date as to when He would return. He told
the disciples who asked for the sign of His return that the generation
who witnesses these events will know that the end will come in
that generation of people.
“God and truth are inseparable. Every thought about the
essence of truth - what it is, what makes it “true,” how
we can possibly know anything for sure, quickly moves us back to
God. That is why God incarnate - Jesus Christ - is called the truth
(John 14:6).
That is also why it is not particularly surprising when someone who repudiates
God rejects His truth as well. If a person can’t tolerate the thought
of God, there is simply no comfortable place for the concept of truth in that
person’s worldview, either. So the consistent atheist, agnostic, or idolater
might as well hate the very idea of truth. After all, to reject God is to reject
the Giver of all truth, the final Judge of what really is true, and the very
essence and embodiment of truth itself…The contemporary aversion to
truth is simply a natural expression of fallen humanity’s innate hostility
toward God (Romans 8:7)” (from John MacArthur’s book, The Truth
War).
This is a better understanding of God when we are alienated from
Him and trying to seek Him:
Seeker's Prayer
How should lost people pray in order to be saved?
Today we tell people to say a quick prayer and really mean it.
Then we congratulate them because they are now in the family of
God. This has not always been. What you are about to read may shock
you. Dr. John Gerstner , Edwardian Scholar, from volume 3 of The
Rational Biblical Theology of Jonathan Edwards presents a Seeker's
Prayer. This is radically different than a Sinner's Prayer. This
is NOT a prayer for salvation, but a prayer that God would lead
you to salvation. You may wish to read Eph. 2:1-10 when you are
finished.
Dear God, whom I hate with all my being precisely because you
hate and threaten me with hell, I hate this punishment perhaps
even more than I hate you. Or, maybe I should say that I love my
comfort even more than I hate you. For that reason I am asking
a favor of you. I want you to make me love you, whom I hate even
when I ask this and even more because I have to ask this. I am
being frank with you because I know it is no use to be otherwise.
You know even better than I how much I hate you and that I love
only myself. It is no use for me to pretend to be sincere. I most
certainly do not love you and do not want to love you. I hate the
thought of loving you but that is what I'm asking because I love
myself. If you can answer this 'prayer' I guess the gift of gratitude
will come with it and then I will be able to do what I would not
think of doing now—thank you for making me love you whom
I hate. Amen.
(from www.wayofthemasterradio.com)
If you have a genuine interest in wanting to seek God and to know
for certain, you must first understand why you are alienated from
Him.
“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wised
and the cleverness of the clever I will set aside”… but
God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise,
and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things
which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised
God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify
the things that are, so that no man may boast before God” (1
Corinthians 1:18-31).
People who are condemned for their unbelief have one key characteristic: “they
did not receive the love of truth so as to be saved” (2 Thessalonians
2:10).
“If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will
not be persuaded even if someone arises from the dead” (Luke
16:31). No sign will convince you to repent and put your trust
in Jesus.
You are not incapable of knowing the truth about God, you do not
want to know because your nature hates God and does not want to
submit to Him. You have nothing but excuses, well-thought out and
fabricated to allow you to live in ignorance. But God no longer
accepts ignorance. He calls men everywhere to repent.

There are hundreds
of contradictions in the Bible, if JK Rowling made
as many gaffes as the authors of the Bible did she would be a laughing
stock. It is not my job to point them out and it would be futile anyway
because they cannot be contradictions because the Bible has to be perfect,
so showing them to you would be a waste of my time, there's none so
blind as those who will not see.
This isn't my list and I am not going to waste my time defending it
because contradictions in the Bible are not a major issue to me. It doesn't
matter whether the Bible contradicts itself or not. What matters to me
is that it contradicts the teachings of other religions who also claim
their revelations are perfect and their connection with the godhead is
broadband and error-free. These other religions also throw up miracles,
martyrs, pilgrimages, great acts of charity and great works of art.
Other tribes than the Hebrews had codes of morality and built temples
(bigger and better ones, the Hebrew Temple didn't make the shortlist
of the seven wonders of the ancient world) and had creation myths and
flood myths.
How do you explain this in the context of a single god who is jealous
and doesn't fuck people about? Except perhaps Job and that story was
clearly fictional to anybody who has got a brain and permission to use
it.
If you are reaching for the Satan behind the glass emergency panel please
don't. That myth is even more feeble and pathetic than your denials of
science and history. If it is Satan who gives people wrong messages apparently
from gods how can anybody ever be sure of any message? If Satan can talk
through Zoroastrian priests why can't he talk through Presbyterians and
Lutherans, or Billy Graham or you? Once you allow a magic demon manipulator
to be out and about you really can't trust anybody or anything. And if
Satan can lie and manipulate so much how can you be sure he hasn't presided
over the committees that edited the Bible or wrote the thing in the first
place? Of course it's an absurd idea, but then it wasn't me that started
it was it?
If I don't believe in your god I am defenceless against Satan, so why
doesn't he make me evil? Why don't I cheat on my wife, burn down churches,
slaughter innocent babies, eat shellfish or turn gay? Actually I do eat
shellfish, because I like it, and apparently your never-changing God's
not so anal about that as he used to be. I've never been tempted to eat
a heron though, strange, you'd think Satan would get me to munch my way
through herons and bats. The Satan makes you sin theory is absolutely
pathetic at predicting what people will do. It cannot tell you who will
be an adulterer, who will be a sodomite, who will covert his neighbour's
ass or who will seethe a kid in its mother's milk. Any theory is as good
as the predictions it makes. The Satan makes you sin theory enables people
to make no sensible predictions at all. Neither does the theory (hypothesis
really, theories have to be better than that) of special creation or
that one about a global flood.
To make predictions and be useful a hypothesis would have to be falsifiable.
Evolution is clearly falsifiable. It could be blown out of the water
by a single discovery of, for example, fossilized rabbits in the Pre-Cambrian.
No such killer evidence has been found despite the fact that whoever
found it would never need to do another day's work again for as long
as they lived as rich fundamentalist Christians fell over themselves
to shower the discoverer with money, titles, honours and prizes. Of course
people have found fossils in the Pre-Cambrian, but not of anything as
complex or thoroughly evolved as a rabbit.
Ken Ham is a first rate jerk. A professional liar. He would have great
difficulty getting any academic institution outside the USA to treat
him as anything other than a showman and charlatan. He is not by any
stretch of the imagination a respected scientist nor is what he does
any kind of science, he is a propagandist and a child abuser. Yes, I'm
serious, lying to children
in this manner is a form of child abuse that
is far more damaging than an inappropriate fondle. Sexual abuse can screw
up a child, but not as much as giving them a religion, that can prevent
them making relationships (how can you love a hell-bound infidel?), prevent
them progressing in a scientific career and can destroy their self-esteem
and turn them into a zombie prepared to kill or die for irrational beliefs.
Googlism, Ken Ham
ken ham is a raving bibliot and is totally delusional as well
ken ham is der führende direktor der aig
ken ham is an expert in forcefully asserting dogma
ken ham is shown priming his kids to respond to "millions of years" with "were
you there"? yes he was
ken ham is a dick
ken ham is building a museum that will offer science exhibits with a
twist
Ken Ham's scientific credibility can be summed up by his qualifications:
a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental biology and a diploma of
education. That's right, he's qualified to teach science in high school,
in Australia in the seventies, and not a lot more. His scientific understanding
can be summarized in this quote about his wife supporting him "five
million percent". The three doctorates he has are all honorary awards
from Christian universities/degree mills such as Liberty University,
founded by that noted research scientist Jerry Falwell. Even these Christian
colleges wouldn't dare blight their own feeble reputations by giving
him a doctorate in science. He's not a scientist, he's a bible-thumper
that even annoys other bible-thumpers with his deceptions and tortured
logic.
Has Kent Hovind, the saintly Dr Dino, fallen out of favour these days
as the world's number one dinosaurs and Jesus nutter? That's a very Christian
attitude to forgive a man for his sins, seven times seventy times. After
all any Christian could go insane and be sent to prison, and of course
so many have been, I'm sure you know the list.
Your belief that the Gospel now labelled Matthew was written by the
apostle called Matthew and must have been written first because it appears
at the front of the New Testament is touching indeed, but it shows how
pointless debating anything with you is. Believe whatever you have been
told to believe, I don't care, but don't expect me to take you seriously
when you refuse to question any belief you have been instructed to have,
hold and proclaim as undeniably true.
Let me make this very clear, I do not hate God. I do not hate God, or
any gods, because I do not believe in any gods. I find the idea of hating
a figment of somebody else's imagination to be absurd in the extreme.
If your god is real ask him for the name of the next city he will smite.
Do it. I don't want your answer for why he won't answer or why you don't
want to ask. I want his answer. Do that or don't bother to send any more
messages.

There is a spiritual warfare that occurs all around us and against
us in this age (Ephesians 6). Satan is often misused as a scapegoat
for peoples’ sins. Satan is real and so are demons - who are
fallen angels, wilfully choosing to rebel against God. Sin exists
in our nature as a result of Adam’s wilful rebellion in the
Garden of Eden. In the millennial kingdom, this will be understood
when children who are born in that time will have to make the choice
to serve God or not. The Bible says that a numerous amount of people
will reject God in the days of Jesus’ reign. Satan or his
demons cannot be blamed because they will be withheld for awhile.
Only at the end of the thousand years will Satan be released to
lead one final rebellion against God, which God will end in a single
moment, wherein the judgment of unbelievers will take place and
be cast into Hell for their own personal sins against God.
Satan can only be in one place at one time. The workings of Satan
do creep into the church. False converts, wolves in sheeps’ clothing,
some televangelists, false teachers and false doctrines are evidence
of that. The Bible warns us of this infiltration and commands us
to be on our guard and protect God’s truth. The earliest
manuscripts of the NT and the OT do not contest any important theology
that we find in later manuscripts. Satan has tried to eliminate
God’s Word, but God has kept it from decimation - not that
He has to worry - He’s God. He created Satan and He created
us. He did not make us robots but gave us an ability of self-awareness,
to glorify Him and the works He has accomplished. He knew giving
us the ability to choose would fail and so He used our sinful choices
in a preordained plan to reconcile us to Him through the death
and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Many other religions have hypocritical details in science, prophecy,
history, and philosophy. Other religions break the Ten Commandments,
by not worshipping the one true God. Jesus makes the claim Himself: “I
am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father
but through me” (John 14:6). The only way to God is through
Jesus Christ. There is no other name by which people can be saved.
Romans 1, 2, and 3 expose our sinful excuses, hypocritical judgments
and self-proclaimed goodness due to our wilful ignorance to hide
from God because our ways are evil before God.
Satan and his following of demons will mask as angels of light.
They do not care what sins you commit. They hate God, and since
we are made in God’s image (Genesis 1), they hate us to because
we remind them of Him. As long as you do not believe in the true
God and have faith in the truth of Scriptures, they will not try
to make you be as sinful as possible. Your failure to turn from
your sins, acknowledge you are what God says you are, and lack
of faith to believe God, refusing His offer of grace, will sentence
you to Hell for eternity - by your own doing. God will withdraw
Himself completely, including all the blessings you take for granted,
like love, friendship, laughter, comfort, etc. You will be alone,
in the blackness of darkness forever, unable to deny God, unable
to make excuses for your ignorance or your innocence, fully aware
that you put yourself there against God’s will, weeping and
gnashing of teeth, eternal torment in the lake of fire, and no
rest or comfort or ease night or day forever and ever. This should
at least let you know how serious God views sin in His perfect
holiness, and how little you care at present to think of your eternal
welfare.
There are no contradictions in the Bible when you understand the
Scriptures in their grammatical-historical context. Some passages
seem contradictory at first glance, but upon further investigation
and proper study, one can see how those passages harmonize. But,
as you admitted, you are not concerned about this. The Bible says
that. It tells how you hate truth because it exposes who you really
are: an abomination in the sight of God through wicked works.
I am not trying to sound harsh to you or insult you. I am blunt
because I do not want to patronize you.
You are a “hell-bound infidel” and I do not hate you.
We are commanded to love our enemies. It is in love that I am earnestly
warning you about the importance of the choices you make before
you die. I do not want you to go to Hell, for I too, was once hell-bound
like you. God does not want you to go to Hell either. He does not
delight in your punishment but He does delight that His uncompromising
justice is satisfied. It is your choice; your gift of free will.
Ken Ham is honest about his scientific reasoning and his faith.
Like all of us evangelicals, He upholds the authority of Scripture.
God’s truth does not rely on scientific reasoning. Scientific
reasoning depends on God’s truth. We are honest in our position.
You seem to deny the fact that you believe in your own interpretation
with your own worldview. That does not make our worldview wrong.
The geologic column has never been observed in one location. It
is easily explained by geologic sorting due to a worldwide Flood.
The geologic column measures about 100 miles deep into the earth.
Science seems to indicate that our crust is not that thick. That
is because Charles Lyell denied God, hated the truths of the Bible
and posited a view that was anti-biblical. Not on fact, but in
an attempt to avoid God.
Kent Hovind has damaged his ministry due to his attempt to perhaps
escape financial technicalities imposed by the U.S. However, Jesus
tells us to render to government the taxes they demand, and to
render to God what God demands. His actions do not take away the
truth of some of his arguments.
Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the wilderness by testing God and
Jesus responded, “Jesus said to him, “On the other
hand, it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God
to the test’” (Matthew 4:7). I will not test God because
He does not need to be tested. I’ve told you several times
that signs and prophecies won’t help your unbelief.
If you really want to know what the Bible teaches will happen
in these last days (remembering they were written over 2, 500 years
ago at the latest), read Ezekiel 38 and discover that Russia (Magog),
Iran (Persia), Turkey (Meshech), Sudan (Cush), and Libya (Put)
will attack Israel and be saved solely by the power and protection
of God. This alliance is building for our eyes and these countries
(aside from Russia at the moment) are very open about their plans
for Israel.
You even fulfill prophecy. You mock the warning signs of the end
of the age penned 2, 000 years ago, saying, “These signs
have always been around” (2 Peter 3:3-4). The Bible even
reveals your motivation. You love sin. You do not want to be accountable
to God or responsible for your actions against Him. Denying Him
is the easiest way to suppress the warning of your conscience (Romans
3). Apathy makes you indifferent to God so you can ignore the fear
you should have of disobeying Him. You have seared your conscience
so you can continue breaking God’s rules (1 Timothy 4:2).
Jesus Christ predicted many would come claiming to be the Christ
(Matthew 24:5). That is why you can find an endless list of self-proclaimed
Messiah’s. There are many today who claim the same thing.
I do not need to test God because His Word testifies about Him
and what He is going to do. If you do not believe His Word, you
will not believe anything that is claimed to come from Him. You
also have to remember, that God exists no matter how my prayers
are answered. If I pray that God saves a friend from death, and
that death occurs, that does not mean there is no God. God’s
way is perfect and who are we to judge Him when we cannot accurately
judge ourselves?
I will pray that He reveals Himself to you Martin. Examine yourself
to see if you will allow Him to do so.

Where? I'm waiting and ignoring everything else. I want his answer from
you. I don't do the listening to gods thing and I am not going to start
now.
I will not be reading in detail, replying to or publishing your last
message as it ignored my question.
If direct physical proof was good enough for so many characters in the
Bible why is it too good for me? Is your loving god still a hate-filled
racist?

I answered your question, but as I pointed out how you would respond,
you would not accept my answer. God's answer to your question is
to humble yourself of your pride, turn from your sins and trust in
Jesus as your Saviour.
The desire of your soul is enjoy or acquire something to satisfy
your flesh.Your fallen nature has a strong desire to whatever sin
will satisfy it. The nature of each person's lust (desire to fulfill
the flesh), is a result of inherited tendencies, environment, upbringing,
and personal choices. This is the your presently uncontrolled ability
to keep yourself from sin.
I've given you Biblical prophecies, and there are several indicative
of the last days.
Your direct physical proof is your Bible and you ignore its teachings.
Once you are saved, if you ever choose to be, you will begin to
understand Scripture. If God were to manifest Himself to you then
you would instantly die because none can see God's glory and live
while in their sinful nature. I said I would pray that God would
reveal Himself to you by testifying to you of His truth with the
power of His Spirit.
I have the gift of divine assurance of salvation. That is the
power of God. It is offered to all who want it.
You seem to be afraid of what I have to say if you will not read
my e-mail nor post it. I have nothing to hide and nor should you.
I answered your question. Do not be upset if it is not the one
you were hoping for.
Mike |
21 July 2007 (19:36)
Is that God's answer to my question or the answer you
are giving on behalf of God?
You don't seem to me like a person who has asked God where he intends
to smite humanity, you seem like the kind of person who will answer for
God from the FAQ list. I feel like I have been asked whether my computer
is plugged in and have I tried restarting it.
I don't want the off-pat answer on God's headed notepaper with your
signature on it. I want God's explanation for why he is ducking my question,
or letting you duck it in his name. I want the answer addressed to me
in a way which clearly shows that God knows who I am and what answer
I need, because that previous answer isn't it.
If God loves me and wants me to love him he can show me he exists. That
really is not that much to ask. Everybody else who I love is happy to
let me know they exist, sometimes they even ring me up to see how I'm
getting on.
Just put your supervisor on the line now or I'm hanging up.
I am not afraid of what you have to say I am bored with it. I have heard
it all before. There is nothing new in it, nothing convincing, nothing
personal for me. You claim to have a hotline to the ultimate magician
but you have no ability to perform any magic at all except to ask me
to convince myself. No. I am not going to screw my eyes tight shut and
try to hear the voice of God. A god who could part the Red Sea or flood
the Earth up to the top of the highest mountains has to have some powers.
If he thinks he needs to be worshipped it is his job to demonstrate that
he exists not mine to make him speak inside my own head. If he is a wise
god he will know this.
I demand no more level of proof than Saul got, in fact I'd prefer much
less if that's OK by him. I don't need a direct contact at all. I just
want a little piece of reliable information that will cost him nothing
to reveal. If he wants to embargo that information that's fine by me
too, I can keep a secret. (God knows all languages, he'll explain what
embargoing means if you don't understand).
Of course my explanation for why you will not do this is very simple,
you don't want your beliefs falsified so you will not provide a means
by which they could be demonstrated to be false. But if your beliefs
are true this test will not falsify your claims, it will confirm them.
Have you so little faith in faith that you will try to wriggle out of
this challenge and pretend to still occupy the moral high ground?
I promise you that if you do confirm the existence of your god to me
I will pray and listen for his voice and accept any task he has in mind
for me.
That's it, I'm raising the stakes.
I'm putting my soul on the table.
I'll see you.
