| Hey Martin.
I used to be Jewish myself. At that time,
I felt elevated above others. Making unreasonable demands of the
government and asking for special treatment didn't seem so outrageous
because I felt like I was part of something special and I deserved
it. Never once did I stop to think about things from the other
point of view. Since I became an atheist, critical thinking has
found its way into my mind. There is really no reason for this
strong influence that Jews have. My Jewish friends talk about
the Muslims like they are monsters, and are naturally mortified
at me when I say that both have equal claim to the land, and that
Israel is a big bully. No, I don't condone the terrorist actions
of some Muslim extremist factions, and I do think their religious
ideals conflict somewhat with what I know as morals, but I do
not take Israel's side either. Enough rambling, very good article,
keep it up!

Used to be Jewish? That is a strange concept. I assume you mean you were
born and raised Jewish but ceased to practice or identify yourself with
Judaism. A very interesting thought. I was raised as English and Anglican,
I can reject the Anglicanism but how can I stop being English? Maybe that
dual faith-race thing is part of the Jewish problem, being Jewish is something
you cannot really walk away from. What do you call an atheist Jew?
A Jew. It is a riddle but it isn't funny.
Thanks for the message, I hope I made my point without offending you.
I was aiming to go right to the edge of bad taste and stop, teetering
on the cliff top. I knew I was on dangerous ground and without sufficient
knowledge to be sure of my position, but I find that the most enjoyable
way to write.
Keep up the critical thinking,
Martin

I was not offended at all. In fact I enjoy
the "non-fence sitting" attitude you have. I don't really consider
being Jewish a nationality. Both my parents are from Russia, where
they were only Jewish by name. Meaning they did not follow any
of the practices and my mom actually tells me stories about how
she always agreed with the communist views on religion. Anyways,
I can call myself Russian because it is the place where I'm from,
and no matter what my views on anything are, I'll always be Russian.
I used to be a Russian Jew, just as you were an English Anglican.
So just as you are now an English Atheist, I am a Russian Atheist.
Despite what I think, a lot of people seem to agree with your idea
of a dual faith-race thing. I would say that only people that come
from the newly established Israel, can call themselves a single
word, Jews.

Aloha,
Saw your message posted on the Israel newsgroup,
and I couldn't agree more. Instead of siding with the side that
is right, or the side of lesser evils, we are siding with a side
simply because their American supporters have money. They butcher
school children just as much as their rivals, and both claim to
have the will of God on their side to support their acts of terrorism.
I've posted that the solution is to take away 1/3 of each country
on the boarder and give it to a victimized country who has nothing
to do with the Mid East. No border, no problems. But then the
big ugly truth rears its head, the fact that both just want MORE
LAND for the country, at the expense of lives.
Sorry to ramble. My point is simply that
I saw your Site Shoot the Nuns, and all I can say is WOW. Great
site, I'm going to visit it frequently. About time the voice of
reason claws its way out of the heart of religious media. Great
Job, Keep it up!
